60 West Celebrates a Stigma-Free Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month

September 19, 2024

ROCKY HILL (September 20, 2024) – The team at 60 West celebrated and honored Recovery Month by emphasizing the power of stigma-free care and culture. Staff and residents assembled a bouquet of flowers to illustrate how different elements, people and challenges in our lives come together into a beautiful and unique combination.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) website, Stigma is when someone, or even you yourself, views a person in a negative way just because they have a condition such as mental illness or substance use disorder. Some people describe stigma as a feeling of shame or judgement from someone else. Stigma can even come from an internal place, confusing feeling bad with being bad.

60 West and the iCare Health Network communities are committed a stigma-free environment and stigma free care for those with mental illness, and also those with substance use, dementia and other cognitive disorders.

At 60 West, we proudly celebrated National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month by declaring ourselves Stigma Free! Our residents shared personal stories on how stigma surrounding addiction and mental illness has affected their lives.

Together, we explored coping strategies and celebrated our supportive community by creating a beautiful bouquet. Let’s continue to break down barriers and support one another on the journey to recovery!

Great work 60 West team and residents.
