As stated by Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in his “I Have a Dream” speech, our nation’s creed is expressed in our Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” The equality to which the Founders were referring is derived from the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible which states, “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”
George Floyd was created in the image of God yet he was deprived of his unalienable rights, his life and his future. We condemn this senseless killing and pray that the Lord uses this tragedy and the others that have unfolded in recent weeks as a seminal event towards change.

We must change the legacy of racial inequality. We must embrace and reconcile where we differ and find where we agree in order to come together.
