Fresh River Healthcare: Making Connections Through Food

November 7, 2024

EAST WINDSOR (November 7, 2024) – Fresh River Healthcare’s Therapeutic Recreation Director Jason Prevost and Food Service Director Janine Lancaster have been working hard to put together programs and events that are engaging, therapeutic and meet personalized sensory needs for all residents.

This month they initiated “Bake My Day,” a program that enables residents in performing tasks that they might do at home. Baking allows them to control the taste, texture, and design of their product. Says Janine,

“The rhythm of baking such as stirring the dough blended with the sound of laughter and the scent of fresh baked cookies awakens the senses. Baking goodies is a sign of affection – we become mindful of others and promote altruism. Our residents have a moment to feel productive and of purpose.”

Janine added that, “Personally, the most exciting part of this has been watching the successes of resident with Huntington’s disease perform these tasks successfully and enjoy their results.”

In addition, Fresh River has been holding Family Dinner Nights. An average of five families have attended per event, often with multiple generations at the table. The events bring lively interactions and new faces and energy into the care center.
