The Touchpoints at Manchester crew surprised Cristina Lazure, Unit Manager, on her last day at the facility. Cristina, who is a seasoned unit manager and recently obtained her RN license, will be the new Director of Nursing for Touchpoints at Chestnut. The Manchester staff proudly wore t-shirts emblazoned with “Team Cristina” and adopted #teamCristina.

Fresh River Hosts Boxing and Functional Interval Training Program as a Parkinson's Treatment

Research shows that exercise helps daily symptoms and slows the progression of Parkinson’s Disease. Beat Parkinson’s Today is an exercise program developed by Michelle Hespeler, a person with Parkinson’s (PWP) and is being offered at Fresh River in East Windsor. Classes are available to residents and members of the public. The classes encourage brain stimulation, challenge balance and stability and teach proper technique and form – all in an encouraging group setting. -
A team from Hartford HealthCare’s Behavioral Health Network conducted a Mental Health First Aid Training for iCare staff. The training is part of iCare’s deep and long-standing commitment to a dignified and safe resident environment and high quality behavioral health care. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course that gives people the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Bruce, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, sustained a left humeral fracture followed by a fall causing a right ankle fracture and required surgery and casting. He was admitted to Silver Springs’ Veteran’s Program. Within a few days his pain was well-managed, his dietary needs were met, and he fully participated in all therapeutic activities. “The care I received was outstanding all the time, from nursing to therapies; accelerating my healing process” says Bruce.
